Ducking and Weaving – Fire #4
I’m a little IceBlock short, not stout, here is my handle, here is my spout-of-flaming-wrath…. So our resident Frosty is throwing a bit of Icy love about… bloody control freak.
Larisa is concentrating, concentrating… taking her time (Well statistically, once every 10 casts) in the vain attempt to conserve her mana for the big one.
….. We interrupt this Mage War to bring you a little Looooovvveeee…..
OK, so maybe I am feeling a little Arcane (im)Potent, and Zupa is making me feel like I have gone for a swim at a Melbourne beach in the middle of Winter (or Summer for that matter).
So let’s get all emotional for a moment…
Sure Zupa can provide ice cubes for a cocktail, all very romantic, until you realise that’s just so he can cuddle up with the love of his life, a 12 foot Ice block.
Larisa appreciates the romantic value of a fire, where would the Pink Pigtail Inn be without it’s warm crackling hearth? But when she crits with her Arcane Potency, it’s like she turned on a hundred Fluro lights all at once.
Now a Fire Mage is different.
- They warm the cockles of your heart, while toasting the entrails of the mob.
- They light candles with a flick of their fingers, while Larisa floods the room with glarish white light, and Zupa Frost Nova’s them out.
- Those romantic strolls through the back streets of any city, are made romantic by the street lamp lighters.. you think they are spec’d Arcane or Frost?
- You have all heard the song “Throw another mob on the fire”, or maybe the Australian advertising campaign “Throw another Rokmar on the BBQ”.
That’s what keeps the customers coming back to Larisa’s Inn!
When you think of love, you think of warmth, burning passion, fire in the belly… You think about me don’t you?
Larisa speaks fondly of her days as a Fire Mage.
Zupa’s even prepared to spend his last copper pennies each week to regain his lost flame, a little of the passion of fire.
What’s reminded me of my love of Fire was this Blog Gaming Diva and in particular this post title just summed it all up for me: WOW has become fun again thanks to my fire mage.
I LOVE FIRE!
Nice hunh? You all curled up on that yeti skin rug, tootsies warming by the Pyro induced fire, dozing in the scorch-lit candle light
…. awww nice….
FIRE BLAST!
Yeah take that!
… and here comes another one…
…wait for it….
…wait for it…
FIRE BLAST!
Damn that took a while… if only there was a way I could cast it more often…
Ohhhh… wait… looky here: Improved Fire Blast
I’ll take one of those, but only one. If you are PvPing as Fire, you might want to take all 3 points, and see me on the Battlefield in the morning, but as a Classic Fire Raiding Mage, I am just going to take one.
I mean there is soooo much firey goodness yet to come in our tree, and while in real life I will lick the plates clean and still squeeze in desert, I need to ration myself in the Fire Tree.
You could take all 3 ranks, reducing your 8 second cooldown to 6.5 seconds.
But really, I just want to get 5 points in Tier Two, and the other 2 talents deserve my full attention.
So my 1 point buys me 0.5 of a second off… not much good hunh?
Wrong!
Have I ever told you how I two shot mobs (Control be damned… I control them, I root them in spot – PERMANENTLY, none of this 13 second business).
Let’s just say, hypothetically I am having an off day, and my 2 fireballs don’t bring down that nasty little critter tearing clumps of earth out of the ground in it’s race to tear my squishy little neck out. What do I do?
- 3 Fireballs: Mmmmm even talented that’s 9 seconds of casting.
- 2 Fireballs and a Scorch: Talented that’s 7.5 seconds, but I hope the mob is down.
- 2 Fireballs, a Scorch and a Sprite Darter in a pear tree…. Ohh I mean Fireblast.
Let’s do that again…
- 2 Fireballs, a Scorch and a Fireblast! again..
- 2 Fireballs, a Scorch and a Fireblast! again..
- 2 Fireballs, a Scorch and a Fireblast! OK, I think you get the picture.
Mmmm that works nicely.
If you are fully talented (OK we are all talented, but I mean in Improved Fireblast), you can skip the Scorch!
But Gnome, your maths is faulty! Derrr, I am a Tailor not an Engineer! However, accounting for lag, pet ferrets, cats, children (I taught my pet child to fetch you know) it will all work out.
By the way, those Street lamp lighters I mentioned before…. they are fully 3/3 Improved Fireblast spec’d. Those major cities have lots of lights, and they have to get home to their families.
Done with the Ice creams and lightbulbs
On a lightly different subject, I can now happily report that I wipe my hands of Arcane & Frost. No I haven’t respec’d pure Fire, but Larisa and Zupa have given me all that I could desire from their otherwise bright and cold trees.
My Arcane and Frost trees are now fully Epic’ed with the best they could offer.. not much for 13 points really (Ohh OK, all quality talents).
Here’s how my trees are looking now, as I put Arcane and Frost to bed (yep, cozy fire in the corner, snuggled up in nice warm blankets).

And my Fire Tree so far…
Me thinks I am going to go and stoke the Incinerator for next week.
Gnomer and Out!

Oh what a heartwarming lovely post, it’s hard to resist such a charming piece of writing. Sometimes I think I can’t wait to let my pyromaniac tendencies in my personality florish once again. But it will have to wait a bit until my gear changes I think. Pyroblast IS such a lovely (though quite manainefficient, admit that!) spell. One of the very few things you can cast when you’re on the move. I’m glad you gave it this little love song.
Still I think I should be able to tempt you with a few more dishes further down in the lightbulb tree. Wait and see. Or rather pop by my pub and have a seat by the fire in a few days and I’ll feed you with some insights concerning the superiority of arcane magic.

Great post and thanks for the mention. I only saw it today even though you wrote it a while ago. Always been fascinated with fire so it’s no surprise I choose that tree to roast things in WOW. I really enjoy my fire mage.
I see that you also have ferrets, so do I. I have four.
I really like your blog; it’s being added to my blogroll. Keep up the great posts!
